Prepping for the New Year

Sunday was a day of rest at our house and we didn't do any work that day to day to routine didn't require other than a few loads of laundry.  Today I hit the floor running to make up for it.

Curtains have been washed and are rehung.
Bedding is being washed now.
Daughter's bathroom is clean.
The living room needs vacuuming, but that is all.

The kitchen has received the brunt of my focus.
Refrigerator is cleaned out.
Microwave and stove are scrubbed.
Counters are washed.

The spice cabinet is reorganized after a few months of me just tossing things in as I finished.
I've finally gotten down to where there are only a few pre mixed seasonings I buy.
I'll still can't duplicate my favorite fried rice flavoring to save myself...lol

While I was there I went ahead and did some freezer prep work.
I froze 5 small bags of celery.
I'll use these in soups, stews and casseroles.

While I was at it I blanched 8 bags (with approximately 1 1/2 cups each) of sliced carrots.
Again they'll be used in soups, stews and casseroles.

I forgot to photograph it, but I chopped the last two of the onions.
They were large and filled a quart bag.
After they're gone I'll be switching to my dehydrated onion pieces for the winter.
(I've already switched to the dried bell pepper and mushrooms.)

This evening we'll be having a somewhat quiet night at home.
Homemade pizzas, wine, sparkling cider for those who prefer, and some finger foods.
(I was smart enough to prep and freeze some of the items and the crockpot will take care of the rest.)
Then the not so quiet part will begin --
we have a ton of fireworks to shoot off!

And to you my dear friends, I wish the happiest of New Year's celebrations however you chose to celebrate.

  4. Hi Shara! It sounds like you had a very successful and productive day. I'm sorry I haven't been over to say hello in the last few weeks. It sure has been a busy time, but a very happy one. We have had guests visiting again from California. We have had company just about every two weeks since October. I feel kind of like I have been running my own bed and breakfast! :) But how wonderful it has been to see all my dear friends and have them make such a long trip to see us. I have been feeling much better physically the last few weeks too. The dr. started me on a new med and it is helping the pain. I have been knitting up lots of hats this autumn, and I finished the big peacock blue lace shawl I have been working on since summer time. I am itching to start a big project again but have been waiting till life settles down a little. So in the meantime I am trying to just have little things that I can pick up and work on without too much thought. Thank you Shara for all the sweet comments you leave on my blog, I sure do appreciate them and always love to hear from you. Have a lovely morning ahead. With Love Delisa :) P.S. I love the new blog format.

Gotta tell you -- I have my days where I do nothing of great value...lol. That spice cabinet just had to have an overhaul. :-)
