Normally I don't make 100% white bread, but that is it for this week...lol. This weekend I'll get the tool and keep it here with me.
Daughter requested hot dogs and oven fries. Since hubby is going to be late and he may or may not have eaten by the time he gets home...sometimes they serve a meal...I was more than happy to grant her request. The leftovers can be saved for his lunch if he has eaten and if not, the meal will be easy to heat up.
I was beginning to think this batch of buns was doomed after the cat walked across the rising bread today, but all in all they turned out pretty good.
Supper tonight:
beef frank with mustard and ketchup
(I skipped onions, etc since I had the beans.)
some of my home canned baked beans
(turned out pretty good, but I think the beans aren't quite
as soft as I like -- I just put them in the little
crockpot and let them cook for a while)
oven fries (sliced potato, olive oil, seasoning salt)
You're making me hungry! So, what's a little white bread?! I'm sure everyone will be delighted for the change.
ReplyDeleteLili, It was actually quite good. In the grand scheme of things I figure if they had eaten a meal out they would have had a white bun, so no harm done...lol
DeleteHi Shara! You are amazing my friend, you have started off the year doing so many interesting things. I have never thought to make my own hot dog buns, I bet they are delicious. One of my most favorite meals is a chili dog with cheese and a little bit of onion diced very finely and a cherry coke. Sigh. No one I know out here makes them the way they did in the old days! :) I made a big pot of jambalya yesterday and cornbread. It should be enough to last us through tomorrow. We are going to have guest this weekend and I am going bake parmesan chicken and pasta. It is a recipe I got years ago from my husband's Italian side of the family. I didn't know the first thing about Italian cooking when I first married Tony but thankfully through a lot of work and twenty three years of trial and error, I can hold my head up with the rest of the family. haha. I sure hope that you are feeling better and that the pain is much better from your injury and that you are enjoying your new place! I have been doing really well this past autumn and have been more active than I have been in a couple of years. Have a restful evening and a lovely day ahead tomorrow! With Love, Delisa :)

I'm so glad the new medication is working for you!
DeleteMy Mama, bless her heart, couldn't cook anything Italian. She didn't grow up eating it and she's still not crazy about most dishes. What I've learned has been through cooking shows and recipe books...not perfect I'm sure, but my family seems to appreciate it so life goes on...lol.
Enjoy your company!
By the way, hot dog buns and hamburger buns are easy to make. I just take a favorite bread recipe and go from there.
Personally, I think your daughter's request sounds just perfect for a "papa's not home for dinner" kind of night. In fact, we found ourselves in the same position last evening and I asked the kids what they wanted..."chicken strips and tater tots" was their request. No kidding! We added sliced apples and carrots to round the meal out and make it a little more nutritious and watched TinTin during dinner. :) Hope your week is going well and that your new year is off to a great start! We got snow today!! Blessings, ~Lisa :)
ReplyDeleteOne of my children's favorites was tater tots and chicken strips...lol. For years when hubby was in the National Guard those weekends would be like that. We'd set up the tent in the living room and camp "out." Meals were simple kid friendly foods and then Sunday night supper was a big meal in preparation for him coming home.
DeleteI'm so jealous -- we'd love to have snow, but amazingly enough our temps are supposed to be in the 70's by Monday.
70s?? I'm the one who's jealous!! Soon enough, soon enough... We did get snow yesterday, mostly wet stuff and not a lot, just enough to make everything pretty. :) Supposed to get more through the weekend, but we'll see.
DeleteSometimes I miss those younger years of tents in the living room. My kiddos are growing up so fast.
Have a great weekend, Shara! ~Lisa :)
