What is it?
A Pressure Cooker
Several years ago I invested in what is by my standards an expensive bit of kitchenware.
(I also have the double boiler pot with mine.)
I have to say that now I can't imagine life without it.
Tonight's supper was:
A mix of root veggies from the fridge
(rutabaga, turnip, parsnip, carrot)
all cooked to quite tender in the pressure cooker
in less than 7 minutes once pressure was reached, which
just doesn't take that long.
In fact, if you like them a little crisper
they could have been ready faster.
The sausage was a new buy for us.
No MSG and gluten free.
$2.99 at Aldi
The family all liked these and I'll probably be serving them again.
One sausage per person and one leftover for hubby's lunch was just right.
Anyway, back to my original thoughts --
pressure cooker is great for meats, rice, veggies and even fruits.
Do you use a pressure cooker and if so what do you cook in it?

I think a pressure cooker tenderizes meat better than anything else.
ReplyDeleteI agree and it is a great way to make stock, too.
DeleteI used to use my pressure cooker all the time, but have not used it in years now. I had a new electric one on my Christmas wish list. I think Santa is waiting until next year to get it for me. lol
ReplyDeleteI used to have an electric non stick one, but I eventually killed the poor thing. When the kiddos were little it was a great way to pull together a meal quickly.
DeleteI've heard so many good things about using a pressure cooker, but I've not used one myself (other than my pressure canner). Will have to put one on my wish list! Mother's Day will be here before we know it! :)
ReplyDeleteLisa, more than one time I've pulled frozen chicken pieces out and pulled together a relatively quick pot of chicken soup for a sick child or to carry to someone who was under the weather.
DeleteI finally got up the nerve to try cooking brown rice in it on New Year's Day after all these years...lol. I had been told that rice would foam up and cause problems. Only to recently find out that a tiny touch of oil will take care of that. LOL live and learn I suppose. :-)
